    Civil Engineering is the oldest branch of engineering. Earlier it dealt with shelter but over the centuries also developed to provide services such as road, water supply, bridges, dams, structure for entertainment, and so on.

    In-fact measure of civilization largely dependent upon the proficiency and skill they developed in civil engineering. Civilizations are remembered for the monumental structures they built such as Pyramid, Temple, Stupa, Pagoda, which required good knowledge of civil engineering. Tajmahal is a shining example of this.A good civil engineer should have a theoretical base with a good practical knowledge so that he can use this information for the benefit of project, he  is working for. Civil Engineering virtually touches all facets of our life. Over the years, many specializations have developed which are catering to the special needs of the projects such as geotechnical engineering , public health engineering., hydraulics, structure, highway engineering, bridge engineering, earthquake engineering, construction planning & management, environmental engineering, Irrigation engineering , just to cite a few. As complexities involved in the projects are growing so narrower fields of specialization are developing. Lot of softwares are being used for analysis,design and drafting of civil engineering structures. The country is undergoing massive expansion of infra-structure , creating thousands of job opportunity for civil engineers.
    Realizing the growing need for civil engineers, civil engineering department was established two years ago. The department is having well qualified and experienced faculty for teaching diverse subjects of civil engineering. Department will award BE (Civil) to the aspiring students. The yearly intake is 180. We have well- equipped labs such as Basic Civil Engineering & Engineering Mechanics Lab, Construction material testing lab, Surveying Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Strength of material lab, Engineering Geology Lab just to cite a few.

    This laboratory houses advanced electronic instruments such as total station, electronic theodolite and auto level. This caters to the academic requirement of semester V. These modern equipment are being increasingly used in the survey of road and industry layout.

    This laboratory houses various equipment for testing construction material such as concrete, cement, sand, aggregate etc. This testing ensures that monitoring of construction quality. Various equipment available are:

    Students perform practical for understanding engineering behaviour of various types of soil which is essentially required for the design of foundation. The following equipment are available :

    2. Proctor compaction mould with hammer
    3. Liquid limit apparatus
    4. Plastic limit apparatus
    5. Sieve shaker
    6. Tri-axial shear testing apparatus
    7. Direct shear test apparatus

    Students perform practical to test the theory taught in the class to understand behaviour of various structures such as arches, beams, columns and trusses. The following equipment are available in the lab:

    Knowledge of geology is a must for civil engineers. As such this lab has been developed. The laboratory houses geology map of India/MP, 3 D chart, rocks, minerals, hardness box. The charts depict sea waves, glaciers, rift valley, ground water, folds, faults, volcanoes, action of wind. The notable rock samples are: :

  • Prospects Of Civil  Engineering Department

    Civil engineers design & supervise infrastructure like roads, highways, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, pipelines & sewage systems. Civil engineering is one of the oldest types of engineering and involves modalities like design, construction, research and training. Specialties within civil engineering are vast, some of which are structural, environment, and transportation related.

    Several factors that civil engineers must consider in their designs include costs, maintenance, and making sure the structure will stay intact during harsh climate. They must also take the local environment into account, anticipating natural disasters such as earthquakes as well as the stress of daily wear & tear. In short, citizens of a country rely on civil engineers to make secure structures for more efficient living. Therefore, their work is carried out according to proper specifications and safety standards.

    A bachelor’s degree in engineering is needed for all engineering jobs at an entry level. College graduates with a degree in a science or mathematics may get some jobs. Some countries require civil engineers to be licensed in order to be able to offer services directly to the public. Obtaining a license requires 4 years of relevant work experience and passing of an examination to receive professional engineer certification. Beginning engineers.
