Uttarayan Anandoutsav, 2018

Unlike other Hindu festivals which follow the lunar motion, Makar Sankranti follows the movement of the sun. It marks the beginning of the sun’s transition into the zodiac of Capricorn. In the month of January, people in large numbers gather on terraces or in open areas to fly kites of various colors to celebrate Uttrayana, the welcome to the sun after the cold winter months. The atmosphere at the festival is electrifying – glass strengthened threads of the fighter kites are matched against each other in the air, and the kite fighter who cuts the other thread is the victor. All sorts of colourful shiny kites are everywhere. Technocrats Group of Institutions celebrated this festival, in which students and faculty members participated in the kite flying competition; it was a sort of a carnival. Festivities are in the air!
